Fighting the Good Fight

I have decided to diverge from my usual post about the children and open up a little about my life.

For the past few years my life has been turned upside down, due to a change in our finances.  I know many people find themselves in a similar predicament and I wanted people out there to know they are not alone whatever their struggles may be.  I am a believer in Christ and sometimes this makes the struggles that much more confusing.  I find myself questioning, "why is this happening?", "when will it end?", "what am I doing wrong?", "God have you forgotten me?"  I don't have the answers to my questions but I do know that God is faithful and he has not forgotten me, (Psalm 138:8).  I invite you to join me on this journey of fighting the good fight.

Hair

My 5 year old son, decided he wanted his hair cut, it was bothering his ears.

I asked him again a week later if he still wanted his hair cut and he did, so we decided to find a photo of a style to take to the salon. Below is the picture my son chose.

Ahhh yeah! You see I kept the picture. Ladies, I can find nothing wrong with this picture but I knew this hairstyle was not going to work on my son's hair.

This is the finished product, still handsome!

What's My Name?

Jack told me he wants to change his name to "Jackson Willis" you know when he is rockin' it on stage. He said  he actually doesn't have to change his name, that is just what he wants people to call him.

Sam wants to be "Sam Johnson."

Wanna Smoke?

I was doing laundry the other day and Jack came over to me, he had a lollipop in his mouth and he told me when he was finished eating his sucker he was going to pretend the stick was a smoking pipe in his mouth. "Why would you want a smoking pipe in your mouth?" I asked. He responded, "because all the farmer's smoke them."

"Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow..."

When the boys were told a couple days ago that they would be moving, they said, "Yea!"  Then we told Jack he wouldn't be able to attend the Kindergarten where we had signed him up, but his response was still, ”Yea!”  then we told Sammy he wouldn't get to attend the Christian pre-school where Jack attended.  His response also was, "Yea!" I was sure the deal-breaker would be: “Yes, but you boys won’t get to attend the Vacation Bible School this summer.”  Everything was quiet until Sammy said, “That’s okay.  All they talk about is God and Jesus anyway.”

Boys and Make-up

I figured, since I didn't have any girls, I wouldn't have to worry about my boys getting into my make-up...

Can I Get An Amen!

On Sunday, our family was gathered in a group with others, praying before church. As we were finishing, Jack asked if he could pray, "of course", I said. He prayed out loud for, "all the people, the grass and the trees." It was very sweet and thorough.

Language

The kids and I went to a mom's group meeting Wednesday afternoon to hear a woman speak about teaching your children how to read and early childhood education. While there, she decided to read a book to the children. The only one she could find in the room was Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  It was the Spanish version, so she jokingly asked the children if they could help her read it. Sam got right in her face and raised his voice, "I only speak, Eng-a-lish."

Presidential Priorities

Since learning about President's Day, Jack is really into President Obama. He wore a tie to school today, because Obama wears a tie. He was inquiring all about Obama's daily habits, what he does, what he wears, he even asked, "does Obama pee and poop." Before school he constructed a podium to speak to the people to, you know about the earth rotating around the sun.

After school, Jack was telling his friend Blair he wanted to play President and he was going to be Obama. Blair asked, "could you be another President like George Washington or Abraham Lincoln because, Obama is raising taxes and it is already hard enough to buy my legos."

Boobies

Sam had just finished a bath and was looking down at his chest, "those are my boobies," he said pointing down. "Yes they are," I responded. "Can I see yours," he asked, as he pulled out my shirt. "They are big," he said. "They come in all different sizes," I said. "Yeah," he said, "some are big, some are small, some are long and some are hairy."

Apple Picking

A week ago I took the boys apple picking, they were so excited. Who do you think picked all the apples? That's right, mom. They were into it for the first five minutes then they became more interested in eating the apples, telling me what to put in their basket and running away from bees.

Backseat Drivers

We were driving home the other night and a van started moving into our lane, my husband laid on the horn and from the back seat we hear, "crazy old lady" and "watch it lady."

Chivalry

So I asked Jack if he had made any friends at school and he told me about his friend Ava. He said they play on the playground together in the dirt. They were playing the other day and a boy came over and kicked dirt on them, Jack said he brushed dirt off Ava's dress so she wouldn't have to take a bath.

School Days

My oldest son Jack started Pre-K today, he was so excited. I felt a little anxious for him but didn't let on, it was all cool. He put his backpack away then rushed inside, he came back and peeped his head outside the door and blew me a kiss, "bye mom."

When I picked him up he ran out of the class and almost knocked me down. We hugged and he told me he really missed me. When we got home, I wanted to carry him from the car to the house but I felt that might hinder the big boy progress, so I tackled him when we got inside and I gave him big hugs and smooches.

Strange Anatomy

Over the weekend we were with some friends who had 6 month old twin girls. Sam was watching one of them get their diaper changed when he asked, "Mom, where is her penis?, She doesn't have one honey," I replied. He said, "Oh, yeah, she's a baby."

Grooming Woes

The other day, Sam (3), was brushing his teeth. His dad went over and started combing his hair, Sam started moving my husband's hand off his head. Sam and the hand were fighting, when Sam finally said, "stop dad, your ticking me off."

I have no idea where he came up with that comment. We buzzed his hair last night.

Brotherly Love

The other day at the pool,  Jack asked me to go with him to ask the lifeguard for a kick board. I told him he didn't need me, "get your brother to go with you," I said. "No, mom I need a human to go with me."

What does he think about Sam?

Mischief

Recently my boys have ...well been boys.
Sam found a pencil and decided to display his gift for sketching on the dining room wall.Jack pulled off his brothers pj bottoms (that is another story) and started throwing them around. They landed on the chandelier and after some time, almost caught fire.
